In front of the South Exit of Tachikawa Station in western Tokyo, the “Tachikawa Station South Exit Land Readjustment Project” has been underway since Showa 39, and nearly all land readjustment work was completed in Heisei 13. With this project—undertaken to promote commercial development at the South Exit of Tachikawa Station—now nearing completion, the area around the station’s South Exit is entering the next phase of urban development.At Tachikawa Station, served by the Chuo, Nambu, and Ome Lines, the number of passengers has continued to rise steadily since the full opening of the Tama Urban Monorail in Heisei 14. Consequently, alongside the development of urban infrastructure, there has been a growing need to establish private facilities capable of accommodating the people flocking to Tachikawa.However, amid a prolonged economic slump, investment trends have continued to prioritize efficiency and profitability, and it must be acknowledged that the development of facilities where people can experience a genuine sense of peace and fulfillment is still in its early stages.
